News — This Spring Culver Square is filling the centre with bees and butterflies

The team at Culver Square are very excited to share their new summer installation, following the popularity of the previous rainbow and umbrella ceilings. This year Culver Square will transform into a kaleidoscope of colour with a canopy of butterflies and bees.

The ceiling will be filled with over 200 of these insects to create a buzz and make our visitors smile. The bees and butterflies will be there to complement the beautiful summer planting that is displayed in the centre each year. We welcome people to come and sit, relax, and enjoy the sunshine at Culver Square.

Visitors to the Square are invited to BEE immersed as they glance up at this unique installation while shopping in Colchester. This display comes shortly after the centre installed a willow crown in the Square to celebrate the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III which has flowers growing around the bespoke structure creating a beautiful focal point.

David Robertson, Culver Square Centre Manager, said “We enjoy being able to display these unique installations in our city centre, where our residents and visitors can enjoy something unique and colourful over the summer months.

The canopies will be displayed in Culver Street West and Sir Issacs Walk from 9th May throughout the summer. Culver Square are encouraging visitors to stop by and snap selfies and pictures with the new canopy, using #inthesquare and #butterfliesandbeesinthesquare.

Colchester’s Business Improvement District have generously supported the installation via their Create Fund to help drive people to the city centre this summer.
