Travelling by Bicycle

Cycling is a great way to travel for shopping, business and leisure. There are several bike stands within Culver Square which are covered by CCTV. Further cycle parking can be found outside the old Debenhams in Culver Street West.
There are several off-road and quiet road cycle routes into the city centre. You can download the Colchester Cycle map from the Cycle Colchester website, where you can also find useful information to help and support cyclists.

  • You can securely park your bike with Colchester Secure Bike Park (spokesafe.com). Located at Portal Precinct, Sir Isaacs Walk, less than 5 minutes walk from Culver Square and you can park here in a secure building with CCTV for just £1 a day with weekly and monthly tickets also available
  • If you come on foot but want to cycle back with your shopping you can hire eCargo Bikes from the Secure Bike Park. You can find out more on Colchester eCargo Bike library – Bike Hire (spokesafe.com). They also offer a delivery service too!

Travelling by Bus

There are frequent bus services that stop in Colchester city centre, either on nearby Head Street, High Street and Osbourne Street Bus Station, all within a five minute walk of the shopping centre.

Please click here for detailed public transport options to Colchester city centre. Colchester Park and Ride offers a quick bus ride into the city from the Park and Ride site at junction 28 of the A12. The routes and timetables for this service are available from Essex County Council’s website.

Travelling by Train

Frequent InterCity services between Colchester and London Liverpool Street (50 minutes) and Norwich (1 hour). There are also frequent services to Colchester from Harwich International Port, Clacton and Sudbury.

The nearest station is Colchester Town, however there are more trains coming into Colchester’s main station. There are frequent trains from London, Chelmsford, Ipswich and Norwich and stations in between.

You can plan your journey to the station on the Greater Anglia website. It is an approximate 25 minute walk from Colchester station, which is clearly marked to the High Street by the Fixing the Link route – look out for elephants and yellow banners on lamp posts!

To catch a bus into town, follow the Fixing the Link route to the bus stop on the opposite side of the road to the station. All buses stopping there stop in the High Street which is a ten minute bus ride away. You can also hire a bike at the station – Bike and Go.

The closest taxi rank is on High Street, just a short walk from the centre. There is also a taxi rank at North Station.

Travelling by Car

If you have to travel by car, could you car share with friends or family? Join the LoveurcarColchester car share bay scheme for FREE and park in preferential bays in town centre car parks including St Mary’s.

Normal charges apply but park close to the exit in a wider, more convenient bay and share the parking charge and fuel with your fellow car sharers. Or park in the LoveurcarColchester bays at Colchester Station for free! (Maximum stay eight hours) then walk into city. If you would like to search for a car share use the Essex Lift Share website

There is good access to Colchester from all parts of the country via the A12 and A120.
