EVENT: Homegrown

DATE: Saturday 11th June

TIME: 10am – 4pm

LOCATION: Unit 17

A team of young curators has put together a free pop-up festival of ecological arts. Working for the past 4 months under the guidance of professional festival producers and choreographers, the young team have curated and will deliver Homegrown as part of our own Eco event. Homegrown features the work of 3 artists with ties to the region.

  1. Local experimental youth music organisation CLIP will lead workshops making fantastic, organic compositions with homemade vegetable instruments.
  2. Herbal artists Wyrd Flora will lead foraging walks around the town centre, and present a beautiful array of artworks made from vegetable inks.
  3. Contemporary visual artist duo Daniel & Clara will present On The Island. Responding to the psychological impact of the global pandemic and the physical restrictions of lockdown, On The Island is a series of 100 short videos initially shared through Instagram depicting Daniel & Clara in the landscapes of Mersea Island, Essex, where they’ve been living since March 2020. Daniel & Clara will give a talk about their work, and lead a guided walk through the town centre responding to the themes of their artistic practice.

Alongside these works, the young curators will display an archive of recent works made in YAK sessions by the team themselves.
