News — The Giving Tree Appeal

Our festive Giving Tree Appeal provided presents for 450 local children!
At Christmas, we joined forces with Colchester Business Improvement District ‘In Colchester’ to run a Giving Tree Appeal that collected Christmas presents for children in Colchester that would otherwise go without a gift on Christmas Day.

Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of the Colchester community the appeal was able to donate over £9,000 worth of gifts to the families using Colchester Foodbank services with a further £453 in cash to help support the charities services in January.

Over 200 hours of volunteer’s time was used to collate, organise, wrap, and deliver the 450 presents to the Foodbank team so they could deliver them to the children in time for Christmas Day.

Dave Robertson, Centre Manager, said “The generosity of the Colchester Community has been overwhelming.  As an integral part of the local community, both ‘In Colchester’ and Culver Square felt it was important to support those who are less fortunate and to deliver a happy Christmas to youngsters across the area.”

“We would like to extend a massive thank you to everyone that donated a gift or made a donation at our North Pole Post Office to support the appeal, we would not have been able to do it without your support.”  He added.

“This is the first year we have run the Giving Tree Appeal and we have been blown away by the success. The kindness of our wonderful community has really made a difference to many local children’s Christmas Day this year” said Sam Good, Business Improvement District Manager at Our Colchester.

Mike Beckett, Chief Officer of Colchester Foodbank said “The Foodbank team are delighted and we offer a massive thank you to Culver Square shopping centre, Colchester Business Improvement District ‘In Colchester’ and the fantastic local Colchester community. For rallying round this Christmas to support the Giving Tree Appeal. Ensuring local families in crisis were able to be given Christmas presents this year, so children wouldn’t miss out on Christmas. What a lovely thing for everyone to do, we are so grateful for the wave of support that made this happen, thank you all again!”
